The central challenge facing humanity in the 21st century is the sustainability of all areas of life, particularly the efficient use of limited resources. The Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS conducts applied research in the field of material efficiency and acts as a catalyst, innovator, and problem solver for industry and public sector clients in the areas of reliability, safety, service life, and functionality of materials in components and systems.
The core competencies lie in the characterization of materials down to the atomic scale and in materials development.
