Since 2005, the Fraunhofer Pilot Plant Center for Polymer Synthesis and Processing (PAZ) in Schkopau has been developing new polymer products and innovative technologies along the entire value chain – from monomers through polymer synthesis and plastics processing on a pilot scale to the final, tested component. This combination and scale make Fraunhofer PAZ unique in Europe. On behalf of clients from industries such as plastics and automotive, a wide variety of polymer synthesis and processing methods are being implemented on a pilot plant and laboratory area of approximately 1,700 square meters, tailored to near-industrial scale. This also includes working with lightweight and bio-based materials that can replace petroleum-based polymers.
The Fraunhofer PAZ is a joint initiative of the Fraunhofer Institutes for Applied Polymer Research IAP in Potsdam-Golm and for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IMWS in Halle. Under the leadership of Prof. Michael Bartke (IAP), both institutions uniquely combine their expertise in polymer synthesis (IAP) and polymer processing (IMWS). This collaboration, the pilot-scale technical capabilities, and the high flexibility of the facilities are unique selling points in the R&D market.
